The US News’ inaugural Best Global Universities ranking list has now been released for 2014. It has revealed that seven Australian business schools have made the list, being ranked amongst the top 100 universities in the world for business and economics.

The seven Australian universities named were: University of Melbourne (#37), University of New South Wales (#55), Australian National University (#60), University of Sydney (#66), University of Queensland (#71), Monash University (#79) and finally the University of Technology Sydney (#95).

Initially, the US News narrows down the worlds best universities to a list of 500, ranking them not only overall but also by region and country, with 100 schools making the final list.

These subject-specific rankings are then based on a number of different indicators, such as university research reputation, number of publications and the number of times publications have been cited around the world. These bibliometric measures have been found to be good indicators for reputation not only regionally but also on a global level.

The US News’ rankings also includes an examination of the leaders in key academic subject areas within the schools. The examined areas are not just limited to the different academic majors and departments in each school, but are encompassed by a range of subjects within the business and economic fields including, finance, management, organisational science and labor matters.
