MGSM MBA’s to get invitation-only leadership elective

140509 peter fuda MGSMThe Macquarie Graduate School of Management (MGSM) will this year introduce a new invitation-only elective examining how good managers can become great leaders and transform their teams and organisations.

The elective – Leadership Transformed  will be taught by MGMSM alumni Professor Peter Fuda. Professor Fuda is a management consultant with a global reputation for his work on leadership and business transformation.

It will feature Professor Fuda’s pioneering work on leadership, which was published in the Harvard Business Review. It centres on seven metaphors for change that have successfully transformed the leadership effectiveness and the organisational performance of Fuda’s own CEO clients.

“The most important part of how a leader transforms themselves and their organisation is why they want to transform in the first place and that metaphor that we talk about is “fire”. Having spent 12 years in tertiary education – undergraduate, masters, and doctorate – I understand it takes a really big fire to commit to something like this.”

“This will be a very exciting unit, hopefully it might even be life changing for some of the students, but it will only work if people come with a strong internal fire.”

For this reason, students applying for this elective are asked to write an expression of interest before they are accepted into the class. Professor Fuda will personally review each of these submissions in search of the student’s core motivation.

“I am excited to work with highly-motivated people who are already in managerial and leadership roles and are looking to go to the next level. I am assuming they are all coming with real life opportunities and challenges and we are going to have the joy of shaping their journey and really accelerating their pathway. We are not just going to talk to them about transformation; our goal is to take them on a journey. This will either be very exciting or terrifying, depending how they perceive it.”

For Professor Fuda teaching at MGSM means returning to his alma mater.

“MGSM is where I did my research, so it made sense to me to partner with the university where I did the work, and where I received such wonderful support and encouragement.”
