Torrens University Australia has teamed up with European football powerhouse Real Madrid to launch a new Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Sports Management.

The new course is being offered in partnership with Real Madrid Graduate School – a collaboration between the world-famous Real Madrid Football Club and the renowned Universidad Europea de Madrid.

Both Torrens University and Universidad Europea de Madrid are part of Laureate International Universities – a global network of 80 higher education institutions teaching one million students in 29 countries.

Launched in 2006 and nominated for delivering one of the world’s top 10 Sports Management MBA programs, the Real Madrid Graduate School teaches across all aspects of sport including management, health, communications and recreation.

With partner institutions across Europe and Latin America, the school’s approach to program creation and delivery reflects Laureate’s commitment to collaboration between education and industry to maximise graduate employability – a philosophy shared by Torrens University Australia.

Vice Chancellor of Torrens University Australia Professor Justin Beilby said, “The global sports industry’s revenue is forecast to reach US$145 billion this year, while the Australian market was worth $27 billion in 2014.

“Increasingly, the industry requires qualified professionals to drive the business side of its performance, which is why this new joint program aims to create leaders who will add value across all sporting codes,” he said.

“Our MBA students will benefit from the combined strength and innovative approach of both institutions, learning from global industry leaders and gaining hands-on experience at Real Madrid Football Club – ranked number one on Forbes Magazine’s ‘world’s most valuable sporting clubs’ for the past three years running.”

CEO of Real Madrid Graduate School and Director of Institutional Relations with Real Madrid Football Club Emilio Butragueño said, “Sport today has evolved into a mass phenomenon influencing societies, cultures and economies. As a result, we now need professionals with sports-focused expertise in business, management, finance and communications, and the launch of this joint MBA program will help fulfil that need.”

CEO of Laureate Australia and President of Torrens University Australia Linda Brown said, “This new partnership is incredibly exciting, furthering Torrens University’s strategy to collaborate with leading businesses and institutions to develop courses to specifically meet industry demand, and boost career opportunities for graduates.”

Students enrolled in a Torrens University Real Madrid MBA in Sports Management will spend two weeks in Spain at Real Madrid Graduate School, where they will gain behind-the-scenes experience at Real Madrid Football Club. In what is an Australian first, students will graduate with a joint degree from both Torrens University and Real Madrid Graduate School – Universidad Europea – recognised both locally and internationally.
