130904 uni of syndey 300x225Applications are open for the Emerging Leaders Scholarship which offers a $60,000 scholarship towards a University of Sydney Business School MBA, starting in 2014, to a person judged the best young business talent.

Sponsored by The Australian Financial Review BOSS magazine and the University of Sydney Business School, the prize also includes a master class with a leadership expert, media training, a seat at a leadership lunch with high-profile professionals, the opportunity to publish an opinion piece in Boss magazine, and membership of the Boss Emerging Leaders Program.

The co-deans of the University of Sydney Business School, Tyrone Carlin and David Grant, said they expect the scholarship to attract applications from Australia’s most talented young business leaders and give a member of this group the opportunity to acquire outstanding leadership qualities.

“The recipient of this year’s scholarship will have a life-changing opportunity to share their journey with other emerging leaders from a diverse range of personal and professional backgrounds in what we believe is an enriching, dynamic and rewarding learning environment. They will gain an understanding of and an appreciation of other businesses, other concerns, priorities and leadership styles,” Professor Carlin said.

“Leadership sits at the very heart of our MBA program and is absolutely integral to our mission to improve Australia’s business leadership and our strategy for doing so,” Professor Grant said.

He said last year’s winner, Anita Mitchell, was chosen for the first AFR BOSS scholarship from applicants of the highest calibre who saw the Sydney MBA program as an opportunity to accelerate through their chosen career path through industry-oriented units combined with practical business experience.

“We strongly encourage young business leaders who wish to do the same to take part in the AFR BOSS Scholarship selection process,” he said.

Judging the applicants will take place over several rounds.

Participants will access a talent assessment tool developed by global recruitment industry pioneers Korn/Ferry, then engage in a master class and interviews.
