AGSM @ UNSW Business School Launches New Pro-Diversity MBA Scholarships

The latest round of scholarship opportunities at AGSM @ UNSW Business School has proven a life in the corporate sector is not a defining pre-requisite to studying a Master of Business Administration.

Members of the LGBTI community have been offered financial aid to study AGSM @ UNSW Business School’s MBA in an attempt to nurture a new era of diversity in the business sector.

The LGBTI Leadership Excellence Award is a scholarship rarely seen in the Asia Pacific region and will be awarded to students accepted into the 2019 Full-Time MBA program. It encourages all eligible members of the LGBTI community who are ambitious professionals looking to accelerate your career to self-nominate on their application form to be considered for this scholarship.

AGSM MBA 2019 and Co-President of Pride@AGSM Romeo Jay Pragacha said “Our mission is for all AGSM students, staff, and alumni to be accepted and feel a sense of belonging, regardless of their sexual identity or orientation.

“We are passionate in educating current and future business leaders within the LGBTI community.”

AGSM @ UNSW Business School Academic Director Michele Roberts said the scholarship was a step towards supporting diversity amongst Australia’s future business leaders of tomorrow.

“Through our Scholarships program, we give high-achieving students from Australia and around the world access to a world-class MBA program,” Dr Roberts said.

“We recruit a diverse cohort of highly motivated MBA candidates who are looking to enhance their career opportunities, move into a new industry, or start their own business.”

The LGBTI Leadership Excellence Award is in fact one of several new scholarship opportunities that will be made available to the business school’s 2019 MBA cohort.

The Military Leadership Excellence Award is open to current and former Australian Defence Force members with distinguished leadership capabilities as they progress their military career or transition into their next career. It was designed to enable more military personnel build upon the complex adaptive leadership skills candidates already possess through their military training.

The Sport Leadership Excellence Award is available to all elite athletes who have completed or held leadership positions at a national or international level in sport.

The business schools has also launched the UAC Equity Scholarship, which us valued at $84,000 and covers the full cost of tuition fees for the AGSM MBA Full-Time program to a prospective student from a disadvantaged background who wishes to enrol in an MBA in 2019.

“We have a long history of providing students with innovative learning experiences that prepare them for the demands and challenges of leadership,” Dr Roberts said.

“We must focus on ways to make graduate management education available to a wider and more diverse talent pool, regardless of their background or the opportunities that have been made available to them.”

The AGSM also introduced Accommodation Bursaries for domestic students relocating to Sydney from interstate who would otherwise be unable to study a Full-Time MBA in Sydney.

Applications for AGSM’s full-time MBA program round three close on October 1, 2018, and applications for the equity-based scholarship close on November 7, 2018.
